If it would be easier on you to vote for smaller banners, I would do so. If I knew you already wished that the banner sizes were larger so you could do more with them, I would say that I like them as they are and leave a comment remarking on the fact that they're so small.
In general, I consider myself lucky to get a banner at all and think that you're wonderful for doing them in general. So thank you, for that. And please add a vote in whichever direction you wish things would go, because that's where my vote actually lies.
I personally prefer the size we used for the original contests (using one I have saved, 402x163) to the size that we seem to have now (600x400 from the latest set!) I just don't think there's any need for them to be that big, and they're actually easier to read when the text is a bit smaller and all the information is in a more enclosed space. A lot of people like to display their banners from several contests and so keeping them relatively the same as other contests seems like a good idea. This is basically a long justification for me preferring smaller banners to larger ones ;)
I'm in many icontests, and there is no standard size of banners. I have many, many different banners in many sizes and shapes. I really don't think it's a problem :)
I enter quite a few icontests and like to display any banners I am lucky enough to win but the last one I got from here was nearly 3 times the size of a most of my other ones and was kina too big for me to put up. Personally I think something in the 350 by 200 range is just about right. It's large enough to be able to be creative and get all the text on but small enough that it dosn't look overpowering.
