Tutorial: Using the Character Palette in Photoshop 7

Okay, in case you didn't know, sometimes we post tutorials here at obsessiveicons. I definitely recommend you check out the saving and compression tutorials at that link. We've noticed in the contest entries that some people are giving themselves a poor start by saving at a low quality, which really does make a difference. If you're a Photoshop user, check out ( Read more... )

This is great, I was told I need to work on my text by someone at _proudmomma so it's perfect, and I use PS7 too! Added to my memories definately and also do you mind if I post the link to the other makers at proudmomma too?

I'm glad it was helpful! And not at all, link away :) The only thing I might have concerns with is if it was linked by an extremely high traffic community, because the bandwidth on poor enriana's domain would probably go through the roof. This is a bigger community than the one you're planning to post in, so I'm pretty sure you can go ahead :)

I actually am only going to post it to the smaller, _proudmods community, as they were asking for good links to tutorials and websites :D

I design in Photoshop Elements - is that close enough to Photoshop that most of this should apply to me as well?

I use PS Elements too, and I think the text tools are a bit different :/ But you can still definetely turn anti-aliasing on and off, faux bold and stuff, but I don't think we can get the 'character' menu up that's in the picture. I don't think it'll stop you from making great icons though, and you can get a lot of these effects manually or through the text distort menus.

If you've got PS Elements 2 it might be there, but I wouldn't know about that :/

Very nice, easy-to-understand tutorial btw, I'll recommend this to any PS beginners that ask me for help :D

May I ask a question? I can't figure out how to do a perfect diagonal. I've used warp text, but nothing I can find seems to give the straight affect I want. Am I just missing something somewhere? If this has already been addressed, please direct me. I'm relatively new to this community and haven't had time to look at all the tutorials. Thanks, :)

I'm not sure what you mean by a perfect diagonal, but try playing around with the options under Edit > Transform ?
