Vidding Red Cliff last year made me want to do two other things: vid more Chinese vids, and gorge myself on more Takeshi Kaneshiro movies. Cause, meet effect.
The film has a tripartite narrative: after an early romance in Beijing, Zhou Xun's character spurns Kaneshiro's character in order to become a big star. Heartbroken, Kaneshiro vows revenge and later becomes a film star also. 10 years later, they finally come face to face in the filming of a musical whose plotline echoes their life experiences. The boundaries between truth and fiction blur.
The relationship in the film is more to do with a love triangle involving Jacky Cheung. It's rather ironic that he was completely cut out of the vid, even though I used one of his songs. The vid also doesn't end the way the film ends. Hopefully the vid piques viewers' interest enough to want to check out the film.
