After seeing the Godric arc in season 2, I emailed Nina with vague notions of vidding Godric leaving a message for Eric amidst dreamy layers of fire and blood and desolate landscapes. She said, why don't you make that vid, and I said, I don't have a narrative.

She emailed back with:
"I would say you were my brother and son and (whatever the other one was) and we had a lovely relationship. But I taught you violence (do you want to know death?) and you learned good (Lafayette) and now I see I was wrong. So now you should learn my hippy love peace stuff. Maybe your infatuation with Sookie is a good start on that love thing. And P.S., let Pam change her good pumps before she goes running after Maneads in the woods."

So that was where it began. As the vid progressed it became less of a hippy love peace preach as it is a suicide note, mostly because we couldn't make sense of Godric's death and needed closure in terms of a more clear-cut motive. Supposedly he felt that he needed to make amends for the harm he'd caused, but Nan Flanagan didn't buy it, and neither did we. He had wanted to die before that, and it smacks of escapism more than anything else. He seems so tired of conflict, externally as between humans and vampires, and internally as a struggle against the nature of vampirism. "We don't belong here," Godric says, and Eric responds with "but we are here." That's pretty much the central conflict in a nutshell.
