that was gorgeous - seriously well done use of such a limited amount of Cain/Gina source material!
I hope you don't mind my comment-snooping, but I noticed that you are making '09 your year of vidding women & femslash (yay!) and I wanted to link you to thelittlebang, which is a femslash focused version of the Big Bang challenge. we're try to round up a good group of artists and vidders who are interested in creating femslash focused art, and it'd be great if you could stop by and see if it's something you'd be interested in!
Thank you! Limited source was a bitch but it's good to push one's boundaries I suppose. Though I think with this vid I'm done with boundary-pushing so I can slack off for the rest of the year. :D
Comment-snooping is all good. Thank you for pointing me to the comm! It looks very interesting and I shall seriously consider joining.
Great use of the songs, and I totally agree with the drums if they made you do it.
The part where you cut between the arm squeeze and Gina reaching out for the food - that was where you broke me. Awesome.
Also choruses with the faster cutting between the sex and destruction, and all the times you superimpose/fade centurions and raiders over Gina are really effective.
Thank you! I'm a big fan of your BSG vids and have always been a bit disappointed that we haven't talked much because of a lack of fandom crossover. I'm so pleased that you liked this vid! And that the arm squeeze/food reach broke you, mwahaha.
Oh, dude, now you're flattering me. Your vids are totally amazing and that you think mine are good makes me all fuzzy. I am ridiculously monofannish in my vidding. I'm actually going to try and break free of that at some point this year - though I may just ride out the BSG obsession until the end of the show's run.
And yeah, this vid - I've watched it like...a gabillion times now and the transition from Gina to the centurion at 1:42 and the superimposed raider on the high notes at the end and the arm-squeeze/food-reach bit just don't get any less awesome.
Awww, thank you! I'm pretty much the opposite of you - I am a multi-fandom whore and it's quite hard to get me to vid a fandom more than once. I really look forward to your upcoming vids - whether new BSG ones coming out of shiny new footage or new fandoms. It's exciting to think about. :D
It's interesting that you mentioned the Gina >> Centaurion crossfade because that was directly ripped off a homage to sockkpuppett's "More Human than Human", which - if I'm not mistaken - was one of the earliest vids to have come out of the new BSG fandom, back in the day. It was certainly one of the first BSG vids that I saw. I remember her doing a similar clip crossfade on Sharon to a centaurion and that image just really stuck with me all through the years. I love how in the end we're all just pastiches of each other. :D
Woohoo! I'm so glad you vidded this song, and did it so excellently. Now I don't have to! *is lazy*. I love the way you responded to the heavy tribal beats.
Thank you! This song is funny, innit? The drums are awesome, but the verses are so repetitive and completely devoid of dynamics. I'm glad to have taken the obligation off you. ;D
Oh, this is so heartbreaking and gorgeous. Poor Gina...
I think the repetitive elements here really work - they feel a bit like we're in Gina's head and this one memory keeps looping over, holding more weight and power everytime, and overtime, having such a different effect on her - from loving, to melancholy, to anger and bitterness. Yhe vid was perfectly framed with the scene of Gina right before she sets off the bomb - even transitioning from Gina sitting naked behind the bomb to Gina sitting down in the cell (almost naked), a bit like we're moving inside her head.
My favorite bit, because it's so heartbreaking and just really, the vid as a whole, is at 1:30, with the squeeze and then a broken Gina pushing her hand forward, towards Cain, just to be spat on.
Thanks dear! I'm so happy to hear that you think the repetitive elements worked. M got all "eww" at them so that was what prompted me to not get a beta because I got all paranoid from his reaction. But my intention was always that it becomes a thought or memory loop, so I'm really chuffed that you picked up on that. And I'm eternally grateful for that visual of Cain spitting on Gina. We were told of a lot of horrors that happened to Gina, but those (by necessity) had to be offscreen so the spitting brought it a bit closer than what we would otherwise have gotten. In conclusion, yay, and thank you muchly!
I'm going to beg you to help out with some DVD graphics soon. Do you think you're in a position to say yes? Please don't feel obliged though, we're all insanely busy these days and I'd totally understand if you didn't want to take on another task. :)

OMGYES. This is one of those songs that I mentally filed away as a BSG song. I'm soooo happy you made this. For real style. I love that Gina/Cain is the subject of the vid you post for More Joy Day

This is one of those songs that I mentally filed away as a BSG song. Hee! It totally, totally is.
I love that Gina/Cain is the subject of the vid you post for More Joy Day. And I love that you said that! With a healthy sense of irony, naturally. Thank you! It gives me great joy to see you like this.
The repeated imagery works because it's more a representation of the relationship. Exactly. So glad you called that. And the colouring! I was originally not going to play with colour, but found that I simply had too much trouble differentiating between the past and present in that scenario. Colour: the unsung hero in narrative. Or maybe it's well sung. I don't know. I had to miss the colour panel at VVC. :(
As someone that was happy that there was Gina/Cain, but not completely happy with how it was handled I know what you mean. On the one hand: good to get femslash representation on the show. On the other hand: could you get any more disturbing and bad-ending-y? I was reading over my list of planned women/femslash vids and feeling

It's so perfect I want to draw little hearts and nukes around it.
I had to miss the colour panel at VVC. :( That's one I really would have liked to have gone too as well. "They have panels on color, Shawn."
I try not to harp on about things, but the Dead Lesbian trope hurts my soul even more than the Dead Lesbian Lover Evilness.
I was reading over my list of planned women/femslash vids and feeling guilty that most of them seem to go the disturbing bad ending route rather than the affirmative route, but then I figured that's also the way I do most of my m/m slash and/or male character vids, so I just attribute the vids to the fact that I like my fucked-up and my mayhem regardless of character/pairing, rather than my attitude toward women and relationships between women. It makes things interesting to me when they're fucked up, so I'm going with you on that front. On Deadwood when Joanie and Jane truly were together, I kept expecting something to happen like one of them being killed because that's the way it usually happens
