whoops, someone already mentioned this.. but anyways.. I didn't know what "Slash" mean't either until last year.. Yes, embarrassing.. *hides.. I'm very out of the loop when It comes to words or things like FTW.. It took me like 12 years to find out what 24/7 mean't.. lol, I suck..
You know what really annoys/annoyed me? I don't go around award sites anymore so I don't know if it's still the case, but a while ago a ton of vidding award sites all had "no slash allowed" in their rules. And one day I got really angry and asked one of them why they were such homophobes, and she was like "omg! Slash means gay vids? I had no idea. I just copied these rules from another site." And it turned out a whole bunch of them just copied rules from each other without even knowing what they meant. It's like... geez. Learn to think for yourself for once.
Haha, that's funny. Thats stupid of them though. Why put that in the rules without looking it up first? I know I did all that when I was adding rules and categories for my old award site.
I can see using "male slash" and "femslash", but gay slash? Maybe they were thinking slash meant any 'ship pairing, like it meant the actual slash mark / used in pairings like Buffy/Spike and Chuck/Blair or something.
Good theory, though the vid in point is a two-fandom crossover between two male characters, so I'm fairly sure the vidder knew it was supposed to stand for "gay". Maybe they were just making extra sure. :D
