Roommate (and bathroom) Issues...

I'm sorry, I need to vent quickly. So, the toilet in my apt was running last night, but eventually stopped. (By 'running', I mean not overflowing but making the annoying noise like it's not done flushing forever, and not flushing properly). My roommate decides to bitch about the noise. Yeah, your flat-mate is definately the dumb one in this situation. It's really not all that hard to see if a toilets broken, especially if she's bitching about the highly suspect running water noise. Clearly the only response to this is to put REALLY FUCKING OBVIOUS notes on everything. "Toilet's broken" "air conditioning is OFF" "this cup is EMPTY".

Sounds like a female roomie I had. In reaction to my straightforward take-charge mode, and she unconsciously complemented my personality by becoming passive and helpless. It was very annoying sometimes.

Did you know you can flush the toilet so long as the pipe is clear? Get a big bucket, fill it with water, and pour it in the bowl. If you don't have a clog, that will flush the toilet, bypassing the broken tank.

Dealing with plumbing is one of those tasks that some people take longer to learn - you have the basics, she doesn't. She does know how to turn off the water to the tank, right? In case of horrid backup? Better show her, if not, so she doesn't stand there flapping her hands while the toilet overflows at some future point. Lots of people don't figure that out for years. They ought to teach that in school, you know? Life skillz, or whatever. How to use a washing machine, stuff like that.
