Today I found myself at a serious lack for any word that means "I heard you" without implying that the answer received is "alright" or "okay" or "fine".

I have a thesaurus. It's not as though you can whip out a thesaurus while having an everyday conversation when you're at a loss for a word.

just say "ooooo" and act like you are listening, the best part is you can act like you are thinking and just ignore them! hahaha
