I would think that here... monsters may be the very least of your concerns, Sir Rue. Caution is never an ill thing to wield.

Monsters may attack with or without just cause. There may be people aboard who would seek to harm you by befriending you. You should ensure of your safety. Not everything may be as you see.

I am afraid not even I have the answer to such. I can only simply consider that it is never wrong to protect yourself. I, however, have not been harmed by anyone aboard, so perhaps you will wind up quite fortunate as I have.
