[ Kristoph Gavin. Of course. He wants to ask about the other man, probably even wants to shake Phoenix for the choices he made and the path he took-- yes, a part of him really wants to get angry at Phoenix about what he told him he did after he was disbarred, but sensibility gets the better of him each time. He can't get angry because of the good that eventually came for Phoenix. That good that he notes, comes with the mention of Apollo again-- Phoenix believes so deeply in that boy that it's hard to think badly of him, of the good he and Trucy eventually give Phoenix. Good that, perhaps, was never his or Phoenix's old friends' place because of circumstances.

It doesn't mean he likes the idea, but again, that's a selfish thought for another time. And he dislikes the way the smallest trigger gets him thinking on these things.

So he follows the change of subject, giving him a quiet nod ]

From my understanding, a jury is available, but I have not heard of them being active in every case. [ With a slight shrug, he looks up as he takes ( ... )

Good point. I think I'll start out by finding out more about the trials that have happened here. Get a feeling for what's going on, read up at the library, too, and then form a plan from there.

[He sees Edgeworth stop and take notes, sending a text. It must be important - Edgeworth's hardly the vapid type who's permanently affixed to their phone. However, the prosecutor has done his best not to interrupt the flow of conversation for whatever he was doing, so Phoenix doesn't either.]

It took me years to get the idea for the jurist system even heard, and that was in a legal system where everyone still mostly agreed. Who knows what it would take here...

[It's actually pretty exhilirating. Phoenix can't help but grin.]

It'll be a challenge. But worth it, if this is the place where we have to be.

[ The look of enthusiasm in Phoenix's eyes is mildly encouraging, though he doesn't know how well it's going to hold out in a place like this. He just hopes what his friend is aiming for doesn't backfire on him, what with the mentality of people here as it is.

He sighs to himself, finally raising his gaze and looking over at his friend. ]

I shouldn't be mentioning this, but I have one of my investigators on a case that will soon be taken to court. I'll be attending that trial myself to watch the proceedings as a member of law enforcement. It's a murder trial from what I'm hearing.

[ It's an invitation, which he clarifies as he shrugs slightly. ]

It should give you an idea on how things run here where it comes to the court, if you want to attend. I was, however, thinking of something you might be able to help with for a short while, if you're willing.

[ He looks over at Phoenix, his expression calm. ]I want you to work as an undercover researcher and investigator for me, Wright. If you're going to take on this City's legal ( ... )

Of course I'd like to sit in.

[He nods just once, firmly. Still, he'd like to know even more. With everyone scattered like they are, it's going to be difficult to get anyone to talk. Undercover research? He figures he'll start with a few card games.]

I can do undercover research.

[It's not so bad if he considers the last 7 years to be deep, deep cover.]

Everything that happened in my time... it's not your fault. Edgeworth. We're human and we made mistakes, but it turned out okay in the end.

[Being watched like that, he's drymouthed and suddenly a little nervous.]

He can't hurt me. It's Apollo we have to worry about.

[As for whether or not he'll succeed in pushing Edgeworth away? He's not commenting.]

[ The wall is back up the moment Phoenix mentions Apollo, realizing he might have said too much, but at the same time, he isn't one to take back what he said. He's given this thought over the course of time, after all. Law before personal issues, always. The innocents came first. ]

Who said I'm blaming myself, Wright?

[ He takes care not to snap at him for that, because it's so tempting. He knows that whatever impression he may have left on Phoenix in Phoenix's past is warranted, but now, while they're in the City, so much has changed that he's certain he'd surprise himself from nine months ago. ]

For someone who has been with Kristoph Gavin all this time and being from the time that he is... Justice has been holding up well enough. I'm sure if what I've heard of him is true, then he will follow the truth no matter the result.

[ He can't open himself to Phoenix anymore, he realizes at that moment. For all the man has done for him, he can no longer burden him with his emotions. It's a somewhat conscious decision, and mentally... ( ... )
