"The United Corporate States of America"

It's no joke.

and might not just be used simply to add emphasis, anymore.

It's potentially a whole new world with this ruling, people. If you thought corporations already basically ruled this country, well, this unbelievably irresponsible ruling has the potential to take that old punch line to a whole new level.

I honestly cannot think of a good reason to vote in any future election in the wake of this. It would be an exercise in futility.

Almost has been, already. But this, left unchecked (and I really don't know how it gets -checked-) does put the final nail in our little experiment with democracy.

Because when Obama gets reelected, the big oil etc. companies will have wasted that much more money.

Or as a friend of mine once put it:

"I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG
OF THE CORPORATE EMPIRE OF AMERIKA,
AND TO THE ELITIST OLIGARCHY FOR WHICH IT STANDS.
ONE NATION UNDER A CRACKPOT OCCULT SPOOK*,
INDIVISIBLE EXCEPT BY LUST FOR POWER,
WITH LIBERTY FOR THE PRIVILEGED CLASSES,
AND JUSTICE SUBSERVIENT TO CAPITALIST INTERESTS.
AMEN."

This is crazy crazy crazy b.s. The Roberts Court just needs to go away. I pretty much want a court that is 9 Justice Stevens. Can't we bring back Souter and kick out Scalia or someone?

Soon as Roberts made his first public appearance and I saw his son stomping around next to the podium in those li'l short pants, my first thought was that I absolutely do not want anybody who dresses his kid like that to have any power over the lives of the rest of us.

And between mid-terms automatically being really difficult for the majority party, as it is, with real unemployment well into the double digits... the potential for corporate cash by the zillions piling into the 2010 elections could spell a complete, total wipe-out this fall for Dems, with the replacement Congress from 2011 on being increasingly pure corporatist-fascist.

You know, it was Mussolini who invented this - the merging of the corporations with government. He called it fascism.
