Actually, one of John Adam's biggest complaints was that the VP was really kind of a nobody... I don't think that has changed much...

Yup, the VP is supposed to be a backup-president and a tie-breaker and THAT IS IT. If that's not something you'd be interested in, DON'T ACCEPT THE NOMINATION. Geez, Cheney and Palin don't seem to get that.
