Yeah that's a winner there. Obama had been saving the trump card. Actually got an email from the campaign touting the endorsement, lol.

I am thrilled. I'm not from NC nor did I go to UNC. And how I discovered Dean Smith is kinda an odd story. But I'm a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of his--I've read his books, even wrote him a fan letter (!)...and have a signed picture of him a friend got for me.

I really think he is the epitome of integrity and wisdom. This news has made my day!!!!

And it can really help Barack with some people in NC who may have been unsure of those accusations against his character.

As a Duke fan, I'm not sure I'd say he's the most respected man in NC, but I definitely think his endorsement will help (and it ups my respect for Dean Smith as well).

I'm pretty sure he is the most respected man in NC. There are a lot more NC fans than there are Duke fans in NC, but more than that, Dean Smith is considered the greatest coach of all time (according to ESPN).

That's not why I love him, though. He integrated Chapel Hill. He fought for civil rights, including gay rights, and against the Vietnam War. And he started a group called Devout Democrats as a response to the Religious Right.

I don't want to fight about it. I wish Coach K would endorse Obama, too, but that's kinda unlikely...since he's a Republican.

I don't want to fight about it either. I was just trying to say that even as a Duke fan, I can appreciate and completely support the message Dean Smith is putting out there.

Now if only NC's southern neighbor would catch a freakin' clue. There's some of us around, but way too few.

(But then, we're also still in the grip of fuckers like these guys, who have taken up shop in the old PTL/Heritage USA stomping grounds. Christ, that place must have a frikkin' graveyard underneath it like the house in Poltergeist. If only a freaky, otherworldly vortex would show up to suck everything still there into oblivion.)

SC is slowly catching a clue. If all those economically despondent folks in the Midlands got registered and turned out to vote the state could at least go Purple.

There are a lot of people getting ticked off at the Republican shenanigans in the state house the past few years (if my sisters and friends are to be believed).
