Obama finally left church?

May 31, 2008 15:15

I just heard on MSNBC that Barack just "resigned" from Trinity United Church of Christ. What do you guys think? I think it's pretty sad but if he felt it was the best thing to do...

Fine with me. Sad, but it had become a huge distraction. It's more important that he win the election.

That Church did so much good.

It won't be good enough for the people who think that nonsense matters and it doesn't help people like me who don't care about 50 seconds of soundbites from his pastor. I wonder if it isn't a strategic decision, but due to a falling out. Perhaps he asked if they could stop bringing on these controversial people to speak and they refused so he had to leave?

I think it had more to do with Rev. Wright's actions shortly after the PBS interview. He conducted himself in a such a wonderful manner during that interview that I heard and read even the staunchest McCain supporters at least acknowledging that Rev Wright had a point. And he RUINED it all in 48 hours - for no good reason! So I was disappointed in Obama when he cut ties w/Wright, I understood it was for the bet.

But this is different. It PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF that Obama has to leave his church of over 20 years because his pastor said SOME stuff at SOME point that that SOME white people didn't like. I guess it's time for all the Catholic politicians to leave their churches. Hell, my priest was arrested for molestation (a 12-year-old girl), so I better never become a politician. Gov. Sebelius, your priest is already telling you not to take Communion - you can lead the way.

Well I think he was bullied. The American public has just watched someone that did nothing but go to church get harrased in doing the only thing he can do. So much for freedom of speech. The only thing I've learned from this is never go to church or what other people say will someonehow be pinned on you.

Personally, I feel sad for him and his family, as well as the church. I feel it's a horrid thing that this was the only thing he could do. Unfortunately, though there may be a separation lawfully of church and state, there isn't technically one in the media.

Very sad.
