I tag whoever wants to do this. I feel awful and this is just a way  to pass the time and get my brain moving so I can (try to) grade some papers

Why so hard to find snickerdoodles? That seems like an odd thing to not be able to get...

I have no idea. I've asked around, but English bakers/salespeople/manifold other purveyers of cookies just looked at me oddly. They've never ever heard of snickerdoodles, or they think it's a character from a children's book.

A quick bit of googling has suggested that they're an American thing, but it's also turned up a decent number of recipes... you could try making them yourself, if you ever actually have the time.
