Alex was sick of it. Rejecting potential cast-members was becoming an excruciating process. Especially considering the stubborn woman putting forth her case.

“I want to be a NEW lawyer, practicing LAW, damn it.”

“Tough,” Alex flicked shut the woman’s resume. “Baby ADA’s are required by NBC law to be young and nubile, and you appear to be neither.”

“Listen sweetheart,” the brunette snickered. “You don’t know how nubile I am.”

Alex was intrigued, despite the fact that she still had to reject the entire cast of Ally McBeal that day.

“Alright,” she shrugged. “How nubile?”

“Well,” Lilah quirked her lip. “I’m immortal.”

Alex narrowed her eyes. “Right.” She disposed of the resume, and decided to take another look at Nell Porter’s.

“No, wait,” Lilah held her hands up. “It’s not what you think.” Then she shrugged in acknowledgement when Alex scowled. “Ok, it is kinda what you think. But aren’t all lawyers soulless devil-worshippers, anyway?”

“We don’t sell our souls to the devil in this building, Miss Morgan,” Alex snapped. “And I expect those applying for positions under my authority to have the decency of listing their soulless condition as a disability.” She shook her head. “Serena did.”

“Then she should’ve hooked up with Angel when she had the chance,” Lilah snickered. “It could have been love.”

“What?” Alex blinked. “Who’s Angel?”

Lilah let out a breath, “You’re not going to hire me, are you?’

Alex closed her eyes and snapped up the resume again. Reading over it, her mouth became set in a disapproving line.

“Let’s see, Miss Morgan. Apart from everything else here…” Alex glared. “Well, you appear to be dead.”

"I think you're just bitter that I can't sleep with you."

"No. I just don't hire dead people."

“What?" Lilah stamped her foot. “This is discrimination!”

“No ghosts.” Alex threw the resume down. She picked up Ling Woo’s.

Lilah scanned the room for reasons to use in her favor. Then she set eyes on someone she recognized, who was entering through the doorway.

“Miss Cabot?” he asked.

“Great, “ Alex muttered. “More hand-holding.”

“Gunn!” Lilah cried. “It is Gunn, isn’t it?”

The young man just glared at her, before zeroing in on Alex.

“Miss Cabot, I need you to-”

“Gunn,” Lilah insisted. “You’d help a fellow Wolfram and Hart employee, right?”

“I’m busy here,” Alex snapped. “Both of you are fired.”

“You didn’t hire me,” Lilah bit back.

“Well,” Alex shrugged. “Be thankful, then.”

Gunn was followed into the room by another man Lilah found familiar.

“Miss Cabot?”

“Jesus,” Alex snapped. “Don’t any of you need to be in court?”

“I thought I was fired,” Gunn muttered.

“Am I fired?” the other ADA asked.

“Wait, aren’t you a dead vampire?” Lilah mused, before being confused by her own logic.

“Weren’t you decapitated?” Gunn finally snapped, giving Lilah a cruel look. “Aren’t you legally dead?”

“I see the chip’s still working,” Lilah retorted. Then she sneered at Alex. “No ghosts, but medical freaks are fine?”

“Out, out out!” Alex yelled, motioning towards the door.

“I sure am,” Olivia smirked.

She’d been lurking outside the office, listening in on the conversation. Everyone including Lilah kept their mouths shut, as the detective strode in.

Olivia glanced around the room.

“Who the hell are these jokers?”

Alex gave her a tired smile. “I like your new haircut.”

Olivia leant over and let Alex run her hands through the newly-shorn hair.

“Well, I like your new office.”

“I like your new bed,” Alex purred.

Lilah cleared her throat.

“I suppose you’re going to hire her as well. Isn’t she carrying a straight actress’s baby?”

“Dick Wolf hired her before me,” Alex murmured, as Olivia began kissing along her neck.

Lilah sighed and shot a look at Gunn. “You - hold out those resumes for me.” she sneered at the pile and then at Alex, who had started making out with Olivia against the wall.

“Pick up your own damn papers,” Gunn muttered, doing as he was told.

“Are you listening, Miss Cabot?” Lilah pressed.

“I don’t care…be dead….you’re hired….finish up for me…” Alex managed to mumble the set of instructions, as she dragged Olivia out of the office.

“Great, finally,” Lilah prepared to take over the arduous task of hiring slightly-interesting cast-members.

“Ok. First up," she ordered Gunn, who was resentfully going through the resumes. "Ignore any messages from Elizabeth Rohm."

Then she paused, and motioned towards the paper shredder.

“And make sure no one from a David E. Kelly drama makes it through that door.”
