That's why there's been an increase in hurricanes - that's the world's natural way of cooling it'self off. Katrina was so terrible because it picked back up in the Gulf of Mexico due to all the convective heating from the open gulf, which fueled it, then pushed it into land. If you look at Katrina's track after passage, the ocean water drops significantly in temp.
