I'm glad you had a positive experience. I hope it eliminates your migraines.

Fascinating account! Thanks so much for sharing the details-- I'm intrigued by these things.

What is your other implant? (<--if it's not something private-- just ignore this if it is!)

Thanks! I thought I would explain most everything since many people don't know the procedures of a Planned Parenthood or different options for birth control. I did a lot of researching into a few blogs that had account like this (most of them were Malay or Australian). In other countries you buy the kit at your pharmacist and bring it to the doctor with you.

The other implant is an Avid Microchip between my shoulder blades. I put it in when I microchipped the dogs and registered it as a spotted hyena.

Have you read the two recent Wired articles on Birth Control?

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/07/ff_iud/ (one on IUDs)
http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/04/ff_vasectomy/ (One on a birth control method for men)

Personally, I would love it if a girlfriend of mine got one of these long duration birth control things... heck, I would totally go for that one for men if it was in the States...

Both were very interesting reads! I've never heard of this new method for men before, hopefully, one day it will come to the US. The IUD article glossed over side effects, but hey it brings more awareness. I watched quite a few videos of IUD insertions and decided to go with the implanon since it was less invasive and painful. I did not know of Dalkor and it makes sense since STD's were on the rise. As technologically advanced as the US is, we're in one of the last places in terms of birth control.

At the PP clinic I went to I asked how often they do the implant or an IUD and they told me that they insert one every day, I was pretty surprised to hear that number was that high, so it's fantastic. Cost wise, it was nothing to me (but I plan on making a donation later on in the year) since I qualified for the state-funded program in California and it was one of 2 options for birth control that Planned Parenthood had to offer.
