Room 212: After classes

Dec 12, 2006 10:44

After talking with Wilson, Nadia and Pippi yesterday Marty was exhausted. He not only had slept through his alarm but also through the day as well. At this rate he's probably not getting out of bed unless someone uses a crowbar.

Parker opened the door, and leaned against the frame for a second. "Going out? I can catch you later, if you don't have time."

"It's not for a bit," Marty replied. "What's up Parker?"

Parker shut the door. "So, Angela told me what happened with Bel-- I think I got the whole story, although she was pretty pissed off." She cocked her head, and folded her arms. "You know I'm totally pro-de-demoning him. I have to ask, though, just-- there *was* a backup plan, right?"

"Yes, of course there was," Marty replied. "If V didn't hear back from me she was to call the school and call out the troops. It's not that different from you recruiting me to knock him out earlier this year. Remember?"

Parker nodded, calmer now, but still somewhat irked. "No, it's not that different. Although I would've liked to hear about this beforehand, you know. I get why you did it so quickly, I get why it had to be done." She looked away. "I'm mad at myself for missing the signs; I knew Bel had his foster father yanking on his chain, but I didn't see it getting any worse. I thought he would've said something. I'm glad you were paying attention, while I dealt with -- other stuff."

She looked back at Marty. "Second guessing you on how this went down is probably pointless, but if happens again, for anyone? Will you at least leave me a voicemail, so I know where to look for your damn body?" Her voice might have gotten tighter there. "Angela shouldn't have to do that."

"Gee. Thanks for your faith in me Parker," Marty replied. "Yeah, I admit I screwed things up with Angela and with some of the ways I did things. If the spit did hit the fan, V knew what to do. I had things covered."

Parker threw her hands in the air. "I'm not saying you didn't! It worked out. I might have done it differently, but I'm not you. You've actually fought Bel before, I'm sure you had a plan." She got her anger under control. "Just-- It freaks me out, okay? V's in California! That's too far away! Someone else on the Island should've known." Parker palmed her face, then swallowed. "Right. Sorry. I'm pissed you didn't tell me. I would've backed you up." She sighed. "But it's not about me, so, yeah."

"Next time? I'll do that," Marty said with a sad look as he put on his suit coat. "Hopefully? There won't be a next time."

"We can always hope." Parker sighed. "Yeah." She walked back over to the door, and said, "And thanks."

"I'll walk you out," Marty said following her. "I've got to be over on the mainland by 8:00."

"Where are you going?" Parker asked curiously, as they headed down the hall.

"Funeral," Marty said simply. "The girl Bel killed."

Parker winced. "Marty...." Then she shook her head. "Angela didn't mention that part. I guessed it was bad, though." She looked back at him. "Are you okay to go alone?"

Marty gave her a wry grin. "Yeah. I don't think I need backup on this one."

She smiled slightly. "Okay. See you when you get back. And I'm sorry."
