desperately need CAT advice...

Okay... so February is a week away  and the Yule tree has been de-ornamented, and is now being pulled from its corner and stripped of its lights (and limbs) and again there is urine on my tree skirt, and on the plastic that I put behind the tree to avoid pee on the carpet this year.

Can anyone suggest something to keep this from happening again next ( Read more... )

cat pee, advice, yule

I am so, so, so very sorry that I could not stop my fingers from typing (and sending):

Get rid of the cats?

plastic bag pee is common place. My cats do it too when i leave the grocery bags on the floor for too long. Something in the plastic makes them want to pee on it. As for the tree skirt I'd recommend tossing it an getting a christmas tablecloth instead. One of the plastic sheen ones. The plastic coating won't attract the cats too pee and if they do clean up is a breeze :)

Cat pee is pretty indellible. i'd suggest a new treet skirt, unfortunately. I cleaned a section of floor with two different cleaners and Frazier still found his way to the spot to pee some more.

K and i found this stuff in Bed Bath and Beyond called Urine Gone that seems to remove the scent, too. We haven't tried it on any Frazier-stains yet because he hasn't made any since we bought the new stuff.

Get rid of the old tree skirt, and get a new one. As long as it smells like urine (and it will to the cat, no matter how often you wash it), the cat (or any other cat) will use it as a toilet.

Once you get a new skirt, treat it with one of the commercially available "cat go away" treatments. You won't smell it, but the cat will dislike the smell. Also, get a squirt bottle and squirt the cat anytime it approaches the tree skirt.

Next year spray it with Feliway...It's a "happy cat pheremone" and they won't pee on things that smell like "happy".

But it's expensive....
