You are brave for writing all this down. *awe*

Quite a few of these are on my list, as well (hypothetically, cuz I don't actually have a list, hee).

Oh, and I kind of squeed when I saw Choke, because it is freaking fantastic and I loved it. At least it's short, so that one shouldn't take you too long.

Oh, I had to do it! I have so many books I want to read and there are so many books you *have* to read in order to be considered well-read. I had to start somewhere and the only way I could figure out where was to write a list.

I'm actually a little annoyed with myself for having to put Choke on the list: it's only there because I started it years ago and never bothered to finish, if you can believe it. I do love Chuck Palahniuk so.

I know what you mean about the "have" to read books. Sometimes it's utterly overwhelming to realize how much stuff you want/have to read, and how little time you have to do so. *headdest*

Did you stop reading Choke because you didn't like it, or for other reasons? I think throughout the first 50 pages or so I could not stop chuckling and laughing; I simply adore Palahniuk's humour, and the twisted way he writes his dark satires.

I know I was really into it while I was reading, but then I put it down one day, started doing other things and never managed to pick it up again. It's the same case for probably a quarter of the books on my list :\

Fahrenheit 451 is absolutely fantastic, and I'm almost positive you'll like it very, very much. Foucault's Pendulum is very long and at times very tedious, but if you make it through, I think it's worth it. I read Go Ask Alice in high school, and it was... insightful. Kind of... I dunno. But insightful. Jane Eyre is my favourite book ever (which is kind of uncharacteristic of me). I thought the Life of Pi was hugely overrated. Don't even get me started on Lolita! 1984 is also very much a favourite, if not entirely disturbing. I read Of Mice and Men in a day... good book. Othello is the best Shakespeare ever! Dorian Gray was tiring to read, I found, but worth it. The Scarlet Letter was written by my uncle! That said, I still haven't read it, haha. The Stranger, if you mean the book by Camus, is perhaps my absolutely favourite philosophical book of all time. I loved it. I just read Tuesdays with Morrie a little earlier this year. It was pretty good.

That's my two cents, even though you never asked for it, haha. Good luck with your

I remember you reading Go Ask Alice and liking it in grade 11 english, which is why it made the list, actually! Should I skip Life of Pi? I keep hearing from people that I should read it, but you know my taste in books better than most so obviously I value your opinion. I loved Lolita so much while I was reading it, but somehow I put it down and never picked it up again, it's the same for Dorian Gray and The Stranger (yes, Camus, of course!) Which is ridiculous: so many books on this list are ones that I just need to sit down and finish reading. I love your two cents: you ought to shell them out more often! Are there any books you think I should add to the list if I lose Go Ask Alice and Life of Pi?

Well, I don't think you'll downright hate Life of Pi. I just wonder if maybe there aren't more impressive books to read, sort of thing. It was very... underwhelming. Especially after all the award and hype that were given to it. I just think you'll kind of be like me, and be all blaaaah after reading it.

That said, if you haven't read the Alchemist, I think you should. I'm not quite sure if it's in your realm or not, but I think it would be much more worth your time than Life of Pi.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne is another one I would heartily recommend. It's really engaging, and when you keep in mind that it was written 1864, parts of it are really quite extraordinary. I think you'd like it, though I'm not sure where you stand on historical science fiction. But it's not really cheesy spaceships and aliens sci-fi. I really think it's very well written and.. yeah, I'm babbling because I really loved it. Anyway!

So now you have four cents!

I think I'll skip it in that case: no sense wasting valuable reading time on books that is famous for being famous rather than being good.

The Alchemist originally was on my must-read list. I can't remember now why I decided to take it off...Probably just because I didn't like having 600 books on the list. :P

Argh! How is Journey to the Centre of the Earth not on my list?! It totally should be! I've got [practically] every other book written before 1900 on there...

wow, it turned out that I read quite a bunch of these.
I also was quite surprised to see Go Ask Alice in this list, didn't know this book was ~popular.

It's not so much that it's a popular book, but it's one that supposedly every teenager should read. I realize I am not a teenager, but I figure I still ought to.
