Sort of like Into the Woods, only with a restart button.

That's... kind of creepy when you think about it too long.

Exactly. I think you can make KH into a very creepy/scary bizarre and stilted world, ALA Ohtori Gakuen, but I don't think that's intended, so I won't be writing it that way XD

This is bad. You're too eloquent and thoughtful and you just got me thinking and I spotted the fluffy white tail of a plot bunny.

So, while this is bad, you are good. I never thought of things like that but it does rather make sense. In my unofficial lit studies, I've come across the idea time and again of a character defining a place rather than the other way around. Like you said, what's Neverland without Peter Pan? Land o' Gary Stus, I suppose. So many of the basic Disney tales (fairy tales, too, if I'm going to be wider in my interpretation) are known by their main character's name on purpose and for good reason. The land itself is only a backdrop for what we really care about. In fact, the land might as well be an internal landscape that only the character carries. Therefore, when they die, it dies and we just can't have that.

Kingdom Hearts is totally a semiotic exercise I think, done in a very fun and clever and engrossing way. I am glad you agree, and am happy I could give you some inspiration for a story!
