It is clear that no longer are together, it is clear that Jack was "looking for life" in others, but regardless of that ... what are their real feelings, how they are not going to be together anymore?, Has finally finished, how Jack is happier? ...

Thanks for sticking w/my story! I wouldn't say this Jack is actually happy, but he is trying to keep himself going and be less miserable...

Your story is good, and what is good "holds" very good, although it is not an argument overly happy, we all would like to read.
My problem is that if I gave the impression that Jack is happy with Tyler, can begin to be happy, and that frightens me.
At this point Jack and Ennis and knows his way of being, knows that his denials are only for its weakness to cope with the society that surrounds it, is no less love, nor desire, nor win.
I understand that Jack is tired of this situation, but the pain is the two with the rejection, would not, should not feel that way.

Thanks for noticing... one of the premises of this story is that this is what jack does *instead* of dying/getting killed -- which, in my book, is definitely better.

Hmmm. I'm not sure I like where this story is going. If this is a fuckbuddy only fling with Tyler, that's one thing. If Jack is interested in a relationship with Tyler, I don't want to know. Tyler is way too slick. I don't like him or trust him. I think Jack may be heading for more trouble and hurt.
Ennis needs to come after Jack.

This Jack would like very much for Ennis to come after him, but unfortunately, Ennis is up in WY being Ennis, so Jack is his own for now! In terms of him getting hurt, he's not really emotionally available. Thanks for hanging in there and reading.

I think I have just found a new crack fic. Your story really highlights the pain of loss, the real hopelessness that Jack feels about a future with Ennis yet, he is not so destroyed that he has given up completely on life. He is still Jack and does what he can to carve a life for himself. There is a stark reality to it all and personally I really like that in a fic.

You have done a masterful job of showing this life in Colorado as austere and lonely as it is would still a better outcome than then real alternative of Jack “leaving in a box.” Others might not like Tyler but I rather feel for him, I have no idea what you plan but something tells me that Jack will be Tyler’s emotionally unavailable and difficult man and Tyler will carry a torch for Jack to the of his days, Jack will be Tyler’s Ennis.

Superbly written and very poignant. I can't wait to read more.

Thank you, it's very flattering to be considered crack fic! :-) You're right, this Jack has been utterly worn down by his 20-year thing w/Ennis -- this is what he's doing instead of being dead -- so pretty much anything is up from there. Poor guy, I really feel that he deserves a good time for a change! (Which isn't to say I have no sympathy for Ennis, b/c I do.) So we'll see what Tyler has to offer, and whether it will make any difference to Jack.

This is one of the stories that makes me think "Go for it, Jack, you deserve to be happy and loved, forget Ennis !". I hope he doesn't go to meet him in January ! Sorry, but this Ennis doesn't deserve his Jack...

This Jack is a long way from being happy, as he still loves and misses Ennis, but he's trying to come back from being completely miserable. But I don't think Ennis is any less miserable, in his way -- their communication isn't great, so Jack's understanding doesn't necessarily match Ennis'. Thanks for reading.
