paradigm_twist [Y][FF] Summary: The sweetness of chocolate is addicting, sinful and absolutely tempting, only that much sweeter when their lips connect.
***
Kyuhyun peered through the glass window into the sweet shop inside, looking at the rows of chocolates. He noticed the lack of decorations and was pleased to see the absence over-sized hearts and attempted depictions of cupids. He disagreed wholeheartedly with the perception of chocolate being so closely associated with Valentine's day.
"Just one..." Kyuhyun murmured. He straightened up as he turned on his heel, taking a deep breath as he looked around the plaza. A place that was full of new faces but was still not uncommon. He was bored but was unable to pick a better place for entertainment.
He glanced back at the chocolate shop and desperately tried to ignore its siren call. He had never set foot in it, always deciding against it as in fear that he may spend all his earnings in there, only he couldn't help but glanced at the shop every chance he could. He took a deep breath and forced himself to walk away from the shop.
-
He took his usual route through the plaza and was surprised to see someone standing outside the doors, greeting all the customers that walked passed him. Kyuhyun gave a sideway look at the man's gradual weak smile as he continued to hold out the plate of untouched chocolate samples in his hands.
He stopped a few feet away, still feeling undecided about wanting to taste the chocolate when the person looked up and noticed him standing there. He gave an assuring smile as he gestured to the plate. Kyuhyun stiffened slightly. He couldn't exactly run away now.
Not wanting to come off as rude, he walked towards him and timidly reached for a sample. He gulped slightly, suddenly feeling nervous as the person watched him, until he finally ate it. After a few struggled attempted to bite at the huge piece, he was finally able to savor its flavor.
It wasn't hard to admit it was delicious. He finished the piece and glanced up at the person holding onto the plate of samples. He nodded his head in approval. The man blinked before giving a wide and grateful smile.
Despite how satisfying the chocolate was, he found himself enjoying that smile of his more than he should have.
-
"Don't you think you're going a little overboard?" Henry asked warily as he stared at the abundance of chocolates on the table.
Kyuhyun remained quiet as he unwrapped another piece and popped it in his mouth. Henry sighed and ignored his childish maneuvers with no idea on how to end his antics.
"You've been at that shop nearly everyday now." Henry said. "I'm surprised you're not an employee."
"They're not hiring." Kyuhyun replied. Henry raised an eyebrow at his statement.
"You mean you actually tried?" Henry shook his head disapprovingly.
Kyuhyun chose not to comment and ate another piece.
Henry reached for one and was about it to eat it when Kyuhyun slapped it out of his hand. He merely smirked at Henry's scowl.
-
He leaned against the wall of the shop, his eyes fixed on the man behind the counter, who gestured at the selection to the customers. Kyuhyun found it difficult not to watch him, the person whose name he came to know as Sungmin. A face that, no matter how many times he came to visit, he couldn't be bored of.
The customers filed out and Sungmin looked up and smiled expectantly. Kyuhyun returned his smile as he walked over to the counter.
"You'll get a stomachache if you eat any more." Sungmin stated.
Kyuhyun lightly shrugged. "If I do, you'll be the one to take care of me since you hardly ever tried to stop me."
Sungmin shook his head but unable to hide the smile on his face as he wiped the glass counter.
"So what are your recommendations for today?" Kyuhyun asked.
Sungmin continued to wipe the counter as he leaned over slightly. "You've tasted everything here."
He doubted that.
"Not true." Sungmin gave a doubtful look as he wiped harder at the counter. "Well then. I guess its time for me to move on to a different shop."
Sungmin's hands froze.
Kyuhyun crossed his arms as he leaned on the counter. Studying his expression, he prompted. "Unless you think otherwise."
Sungmin resumed cleaning. "You don't have to." He murmured quietly.
Kyuhyun failed to hide his own mischievous smile as he gazed at him. He wanted nothing more than to close the space between them, but it was still too soon.
Sungmin met his eyes briefly and shyly turned away, distracting himself by straightening the papers by the cash register.
"A festival?" Kyuhyun asked, glancing at the flyers.
Sungmin nodded. "Its going to be held here. At the plaza."
"Hardly entertaining." Kyuhyun commented.
"It could be." Sungmin countered.
"It never is."
Sungmin lowered his eyes at his immediate disapproval. "Then you wouldn't come to one?"
"I'd rather not seeing that there's no point to it." He noticed Sungmin's crestfallen expression. It never ceased to amaze him how readable he was. "I was going to go to rent a few movies instead. I think that's a better way to go to spend the night than fight my way through noisy tourists and whining children."
"Sounds lonely." Sungmin commented.
"Why don't you come over and fix that then?" Kyuhyun watched as his discouraged expression gradually brightened up at his straightforward invitation.
"I wouldn't want you to be lonely." He said coyly as he turned back to his work.
Kyuhyun admitted he was excited at the prospect of tomorrow.
-
He cringed.
This was meant to be a night for two. He really didn't take into account of the arrival of a third wheel.
Kyuhyun was ready to throw Henry out of the apartment but he easily dodged his hands and nearly crippled him in the process. It was easy to forget sometimes just how much stronger he was.
"Sorry. This is my first time meeting someone who is willing to tolerate his weird behavior." Henry said as Sungmin chuckled.
"It's difficult but you learn to ignore it."
"Yes. Yes. I'm intolerable. Now leave." Kyuhyun urged.
"Where do you work?" Henry asked, completely ignoring the glare aimed at him.
"At this small chocolate shop by the-"
"Wait." Henry turned towards the kitchen and gestured to a jar filled to the rim with wrapped sweets.
"I didn't realize you bought so many." Sungmin commented as Kyuhyun who exhaled sharply, hating that glint in Henry's eyes.
"I see."
"Good. Now go away." Kyuhyun advised darkly.
"No. I want to stay here." Henry insisted.
Kyuhyun narrowed his eyes dangerously but Henry merely flashed a smile. Sungmin watched curiously between the two.
"I'm not leaving just because you tell me to. " Henry asserted. "If you to want to have your own fun, go outside."
Kyuhyun had every intention to give him a piece of his mind.
Instead, he found himself walking alongside Sungmin on the streets in the cool evening. He cursed under his breath.
"We could have stayed." Sungmin reasoned.
"That would have defeated the entire purpose." Kyuhyun replied bitterly. He rubbed his arms, feeling the bruises he received when Sungmin wasn't looking.
He was still thinking of a place to go when Sungmin suddenly grabbed his hand. He blindly followed him as Sungmin pulled him along.
They moved away from the streets, towards a small pathway in the woods. He nearly stumbled but managed to keep his balance. Wondering where Sungmin was taking him when they finally reached a secluded area.
Kyuhyun shielded his eyes from the glaring sunset. He watched as Sungmin let go of his hand and ran towards a man-made swing.
He stepped forward and stood beside him. He eyed the thick ropes that tied it to the tree. "How did you find out about this place?"
"I used to come here when I was a kid." Sungmin replied nostalgically as he lightly kicked the ground.
He stepped behind him, giving a wordless notice as he helped pushed the swing. Sungmin grinned as he swung lightly, not minding at all.
They continued like this for a while. Kyuhyun sneaked a peek from the corner of his eyes and realised that it was now twilight. His eyes gradually turned towards Sungmin who had his eyes closed in bliss. His stare became a softening gaze, and he found himself unable to look away from the man's face.
He leaned in cautiously, pressing his lips gently against his forehead.
Sungmin opened his eyes slowly and locked eyes with him, a sheepish smile on his lips.
Kyuhyun decided he had waited long enough. He leaned down further and stole a brief but soft kiss.
-
Kyuhyun waited impatiently as he peered through the glass window. He knocked on it and managed to get hold of the cashier's attention, who waved him away in annoyance.
He sighed and turned around, kicking the ground when he heard the small jingle of a door opening. He turned around and waited as Sungmin strolled towards him, giving him a knowing look.
"You do know that all my co-workers resent you now?"
Kyuhyun shrugged. "The same applies to them."
Sungmin laughed as he shook his head. They held hands as they walked side by side. It was a little warmer now that spring came with its occasional breeze.
They both strayed off the path, only now it was Kyuhyun who pulled his hand instead until they reached the familiar area. Sungmin sat down on swing as Kyuhyun began to push him gently.
Kyuhyun continued to do so until he heard the sound of crunching paper and furrowed his eyebrows. He peered overhead to see Sungmin unwrapping a piece of chocolate.
Sungmin stopped and looked up, give a sly smile as he offered the heart-shaped chocolate. Kyuhyun shook his head as Sungmin chuckled.
"You must be sick of chocolate by now."
"Not necessarily." Kyuhyun replied. He kept one hand on the rope as he turned about.
Sungmin held the chocolate and tapped it on his lips. Kyuhyun blinked and paid special attention to this gesture. Sungmin then held it between his lips, eating it carefully.
He was unconsciously provoking him.
Sungmin froze when Kyuhyun bit into the other side of the heart and held it between his lips. He smiled as he nibbled the chocolate, gradually narrowing the space between them. He watched in glee as Sungmin blushed furiously.
He closed his eyes, finishing the remaining chocolate when he met his lips. Kyuhyun couldn't help but smile as he savored the kiss.
He reluctantly pulled away. Sungmin loosened his tight grip on both the ropes of the swing as he slowly opened his eyes. They lit up considerably.
"Your sweet tooth is unquenchable." He murmured.
"It's an addiction," Kyuhyun said, with the tiniest hint of a smirk, as he pulled the ropes and leaned in once more. "One that you must always satisfy."
