Back with more of those geisha songs (
introduction and the first two here). These two are rather short, but right now I feel like posting exactly them. :3
The Letter
If there were no moon
I would read it by the Winter snow light,
Or in Summer by the fireflies,
Or if there were no moon or snow or fireflies
I would read it by the light of my heart.
So would I! ^^
Personal notes aside, here we can see that this is indeed a song and not a typical type of common Japanese/Edo poetry - there are seasonal references, but all of them! (I consider "the light of my heart" aka theme of love to stand in for spring; otherwise there are summer fireflies, winter snow and autumn moon.)
Models
Butterfly
Or fallen leaf,
Which ought I to imitate
In my dancing?
Doesn't really need much of a comment. If not, I suggest looking up few geisha dancing videos on Youtube. XD
(This song/poem also always makes me want to dress up in my kimono/yukata and start fiddling with a fan. ^^° )
