The last piece of advice my doctor gave me*: try taking 3mg of melatonin before bed.

That worked *great*, let me tell you: waking up in the middle of the night becomes a total non-issue when you're nolonger able to get to sleep in the first place. I have to hand it to him, that solution would never have occurred to me. Last night was the worst ( Read more... )

melatonin works wonders for me. but the only time i use it is if i am chemically up... if i drink coffee too late in the day, or do some other stimulant or hallucinogen.

Yeah, it gets turned over to 5-MeO-DMT, IIRC.

Decided to delete my first comment because the two meta-analyses linked at the end of the post don't refute the possibility that it can help some people with those, and to my mind there's enough suggestive evidence that a null result at the meta level is surprising. But the benefits don't seem to be showing up consistently; that could just be inadequate design, but would need to delve more into the methodological details to feel more confident.
