this is so great! i can't tell you how refreshing this was. it seems like nearly everyone writes the elder tams, especially gabriele as a cold, almost unfeeling prick, and that really wasn't the impression i got at all from the show. he's just a man who made a mistake and pobably ended up regretting it. it was so great to see that in this story. wonderful job!

Thank you so much! I honestly don't think I've read any fics portraying the elder Tams, though I can see where fandom might want to paint them as the bad guys. But I'm with you, that wasn't the impression I got from the show. I thought that yes, they were stubborn and not open to the fact that Simon might be right, but I don't think they were ultimately bad people or parents. Just people who made a mistake, and I can't imagine them not regretting it later.

Haven't read much Firefly fic, but I liked this one. Interesting situation and pretty true to the show.

That was amazing! Thank you! The bits at the start with Simon's hesitation and Kaylee first talking him into going and then hesitating herself when he asked her to come along was just perfect and sweet. And the last section.. so very touching. Loved it. ♥
