I'm sorry, was the last Atlantis episode actually supposed to be titled Barf Storm? Because it would be more suiting. ( My thoughts on Brain Storm - Spoilers! )
I was reading someone else's review of this episode and they made a very interesting comment, which actually makes a lot of the interactions around Rodney make sense. At any rate, apparently the writers of the show have admitted that they live their geek fantasies through Rodney. So, this is in part why John *never* gets the girl, apart from an episode of two, is best buds with Rodney, etc... He is the epitome of the "cool" football hero from high school. Rodney gets to have John and Ronon and to a lesser extent the other cool kids, like him and rely on him for saving their asses. He's the one that gets the hot girl. And given how very hs reunionish this episode was, it makes a lot of sense to me.
I found this episode to be annoying, even though I did like Nye and Tyson as guest stars.
Ugh, that is so stupid! Damn effing writers. Shows should be REALISTIC not nerd fantasies. I mean, I'm a nerd too, but I wouldn't ever write Rodney and Jen together just because I wanted a nerd to win it all.
I liked Rodney with Katie (the botanist). They were cute together. I believed that one. This... Ugh, it frustrates me and makes me want to puke. Thank you SGA! Not.
Nye and Tyson were great though, they really were. :)
I find the complete and total love-fest for Rodney to be a bit much... In fact this whole season has been fairly disappointing. I did love the first episode of season 5 - to me, this was what all the episodes should have been about: team love all the way.
I don't mind Keller. But what I do mind is that they are focusing on her rather than Teyla. Now maybe Rachel has asked for a reduction in her role b/c of the baby, but I haven't heard anything about that from anyone. It is just frustrating. Similarly, the focus on Woolsey bothers me. This is the last season: let's focus on the team.
I didn't mind the Katie part, because it was sweet and seemed genuine. But now that they're trying to shove this relationship down our throat, I'm less than pleased.
I have liked a lot of episodes this season, but there were also ones I didn't like (most notably Outsiders and Inquisition). I do miss the team-y-ness though.
I really like Keller, so I don't mind the focus on her, but I was still suprised that they've focused on her as much as they have. The focus on Woolsey I wouldn't mind if we knew he had several more seasons, but like you said, this is the last one. I'm hoping the rest of the episodes start to pick up.
The problem with that is that the (obviously male)writer nerds don't realize that female nerds have fantasies that we'd like to see lived out too.
How many of us haven't seen ourselves in Jennifer's social awkwardness and lack of self-esteem? Sure she's pretty, but in more of a 'cute' way than 'drop dead gorgeous'. Who doesn't relate to that? And yeah, none of us are likely to end up with the real world equivalent of a Ronon, but that doesn't mean our dreams shouldn't get the chance to be played out on the tv screen.
