I had a lot of fun coming up with Kara's backstory, so I'm glad people seemed to be receptive to it. :)

I am looking forward to how things will go with how Michael sees her.
--I do have plans for this, promise. ;) Even though this story is mostly Kara/Lee I thought it'd be fun to put in a bit of a sub-plot as well.

Wow, you just made Micheal a lot more interesting as a character. He was kind of a passive guy before, dare I say just a little boring. But this is a lot more interesting.

The weird thing is that the way Kara met her dad is actually kind of creepy. I mean, if I was a single mom and I found out that my 12-year-old daughter had befriended an older man she'd met at the grocery store and was spending hours with him each week and he was buying her ice cream and stuff---I'd freak out, too, though not violently. Now we know from the beginning that the guy is her father and not a pedophile, but it shows just how starved for affection Kara was that she's willing to put herself in a situation that she ought to know (from school at least) isn't really safe. And it suggests that Kara's father is a good, compassionate guy with sometimes very poor judgment (since he couldn't have known Kara was his kid until Socrata showed up).

Okay, looking back on the chapter I can see how people could view the whole Kara and her dad thing as creepy. That wasn't my intention, but I can definitely see why you thought that. I was thining something more along the lines of unofficial Big Brothers organization. Lol.

But at the same time, I was trying to use it to show how desperate Kara was for someone to be nice to her. Because even knowing that he's not a pedophile, I think it's still an odd thing for a 12 year old to want to spend her free time at a grocery store just to see this 'old' man.

And yes, Kara's dad is a decent, compassionate guy. I figure that after having the mother she does have, Kara deserves one good parent. :)

I never thought it could be possible, but it just keeps getting better with each chapter. Everything that you wrote about Kara's background seems to fit. And, I love how Kara and Lee are feeling so naughty about sneaking around!

New Chapter, YIPEE!

Wow, what a really fascinating alternate backstory. I had wondered if Michael would freak out if he found out about his HALF-Sis and his friend; but now I want to know his POV of the events. Will we get to meet Miles and Socrata? Will Lee's own frakked-up family history make an appearance? Curious...

I'm glad you like her backstory. :) I had a lot of fun thinking it up and ironing out the details.

Michael will start to become a more important part of the story as events roll on. It's still going to be primarily a Kara/Lee fic, but he will be making more appearances.

As for Kara's parents: Probably, and yes. As for Lee's family: Haven't fully decided, but assuming I do write the sequel I have planned, they will definitely show up in that one. :)

Ohh... great stuff ... I LURVE this story! Lee was wonderful, equal parts speechless & supportive. The kitchen scene was yummy - Lee is a man of many talents AND he multi-tasks! I think him going to talk to Michael to try to give Kara that relationship is wonderful.

This universe is fascinating.
