Eric's father called last night for him; thankfully, Eric was out doing laundry and I was putting the kids down for the night and didn't get to the phone in time. I called Eric to let him know and waited for him to call me back and tell me what happened ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear about this and it sounds very strongly like Eric's father is just coming up with reasons to not want to attend, which I guess you know.

But you can't let crazy parents put you off; if we did that no one would ever get married. :) Or stay that way...

As the following link shows: http://www.ewtn.com/uspapalvisit08/words/Synagogue.asp

The POPE was IN a SYNAGOGUE the other DAY.

On 18 April 2008 the Holy Father gave the following address to representatives of the Jewish Community in New York gathered at Park East Synagogue in Manhattan.

"Dear Friends, Shalom! It is with joy that I come here, just a few hours before the celebration of your Pesah, to express my respect and esteem for the Jewish community in New York City. "

JOY. RESPECT. ESTEEM.

Man, I hate it when people don't do a little tiny research about their own religion (ahem, somebody's dad) and then go all discriminatory with this misinformation.

Catholics LOVE Jews because we got all our IDEAS from you guys (hello, old testament). We just added the "Messiah" stuff. That's like our "spin" on it all.

I return to my earlier tenet: You are doing it all right. Just keep on keepin' on. Yay, you.

I know I'm late to commenting, but I wanted to put in my two cents in.

It sounds like your father-in-law is hiding behind half assed excuses to skip your ceremony. I'm sure that he's done other things that the Pope says not to do.

That being said, don't let that man get you down. Good luck with the ceremony. You deserve a beautiful day.
