My current exercise regime

I'm writing this partly for someone else, partly for myself.

Daily: stretching 1-3 times a day. I concentrate on my lower back, glutes (aka bum), calves. My calves are very tight partly because of my lower back injury, partly because of the running and cycling I do.

Once or twice a week I do a bodyweight exercise routine: ( Read more... )

Yes, for people living in central London, those bikes must be delightful. I am not quite at the point where £45/year is less than £1/day, but...

Where do you do pilates? Or is it just at home? I need to do more pilates/yoga type thing. I went to the 'yoga for chasers' a few weeks ago and it was killer as everyone else there is fitter than me of course! I'm pretty flexible but have no strength. I haven't been since but that's more due to health issues than not wanting to.

I do Pilates at http://www.onekx.org.uk/gym.html which is a gym within spitting distance of my flat. I've done it at Camden leisure centres before (Oasis in Covent Garden/Holborn and Mornington Sports Centre in Camden Town.)

I don't know if Pilates is easier than Yoga necessarily, never having done Yoga. When I started Pilates I was considerably unfit and struggled to keep up with the class. When I finally got it into my head that I should do what I could do and not worry about what I couldn't do, it got a *lot* easier to maintain motivation. The positive affirmation I used in that circumstance was 'I'm doing this for ME', which I'd repeat to myself in my head while other people were doing complicated things with their abdominal muscles and I was taking a rest.

It is, isn't it! My primary focus is on getting fitter. However, I do have to make sure I don't do too much exercise; it can be very easy to get over-enthused and end up doing too much. It's only two days a week or so that I'll do two hours of exercise, usually I do an hour a day.

I went swimming! I get a sticker!!!! I slayed some anxiety demons.

Awesome!

I have to say I've never yet had the problem of doing too much exercise...
