I don't have ferrets any more; could always loan you a cat though.
I admit that when I had mice I locked all my own food in tins, but then I set out feeding stations and water dishes for them and more or less made pets of them. They were fieldmice, which don't stink and wee everywhere like house mice. We got so we could identify several individuals, and they got really surprisingly tame.

psych0naut has a ferret called Frettchen, I see them both at the Pembury quite regularly.
