I hope you don't mind me being nosey. I've looked back through some of your recent and some of your early posts and the distance you've come seems pretty amazing. What turned it around? Was the medication the stepping stone to sorting yourself out, and if so how did you wind up trusting anyone that it would and taking it? I always kind of figured that once you (generic you) went down the heavy drinking route so much that it put you on the streets you were unlikely to be able to turn it around.

Ah, the drinking didn't put me on the streets. I describe myself as a former street-drinker because I was too unstable to do much drinking in pubs and too full of nervous energy to drink at home. Not all street people are actually homeless, and I have only spent a small amount of time actually living on a street, but probably a year and a half of being a street drinker. It was the hypomania, which led to me doing risky things including befriending dangerous people who beat me up and made death threats against me, also my hypomania and other mental health problems made it very very difficult to sort things out like the next place to live. The drinking was connected to my mental health problems in various ways. I used to drink to try and kill the pain of depression, and also drink to try and calm me down from being hypomanic (which would only work for the first couple of drinks then I'd get aggressive ( ... )

CBT. *smile* I was in DBT (a similar offset of CBT). Trying to control hypomania, depression, psychosis, mania, any of it is such a pain in the ass.

I'm on six different medications. *sighs*

Hi! I'm bipolar as well and found you on apolladay (or a community with a similar name). I hope you don't mind that I added you. I'm bi as well, have friends that are poly, etc. I just thought I'd drop you a line to say that I'm not some crazy stalker or something...

My name is Sonya btw. =) I'm 20 and live on the West Coast of the US.

Nice to meet you.
