PrologueEeteuk can see the Future.
He can see that Kyuhyun will ask what his future looks like as he lays quietly in his bed after Eeteuk finishes his bedtime story. He will tell Kyuhyun that he will always do his best and give his all to the person he loves. He will tell Kyuhyun that he will capture many hearts with his charm and good looks. What he won't tell Kyuhyun as he sees the flash of hope in the younger's eyes is that the one heart he wants he'll never be able to get.
"And they lived happily ever after, the end."
"Hyung?" Eeteuk looked up as he closed the book in front of him, his full attention on his youngest member as he noted the big questioning eyes.
"Yes, Kyuhyun-ah?" The leader questioned with a small tilt of his head.
"Does...things like that really happen?" Kyuhyun looked hesitant as he bit at his lower lip, pulling at the edge of his blanket almost nervously. It was small things like these that made Eeteuk remember how young Kyuhyun was compared to the rest of them.
"You mean melting a person's heart and falling in love?" There was a vigorous nod. Eeteuk smiled. "Of course it can happen, Kyuhyun-ah. And it'll happen to you." He brushed a stray lock of hair out of Kyuhyun's eyes. "One day you'll melt a million hearts with your charm and handsome looks."
"Hyung, now you're being ridiculous." Ah, so there was the Kyuhyun he knew.
"I'm telling the truth!" Eeteuk exclaimed with a laugh. "I can see the future, don't you know?"
"Yeah. Right." The disbelief made Eeteuk giggle more.
"I'll prove it." Eeteuk grinned. "In ten seconds, Kangin's going to call out for me because Donghae took his slippers and replaced them with a foil hat."
There was a small scoff, followed by "Whatever, Hyun--"
"JUNGSU-YAH. That little brat--JUNGSU-YAH!" Kangin poked his head into the room. "Oh, there you are. Have you seen Donghae?"
"Try looking at the stars." Eeteuk answered with a small grin and a wink at Kyuhyun.
"Oh, so he's over there, is he?" Kangin banged his fist into his palm. "I'll be back."
Eeteuk threw a silent prayer up to heaven for Donghae before turning back to Kyuhyun's wide eyes. "How'd you do that?" Kyuhyun asked and Eeteuk smiled wide--dimple and all. "It's a secret."
The oldest stood and grabbed the edges of the blanket out of Kyuhyun's grasp and pulled it up to cover the rest of the young boy. "There. Do you want me to turn off all the lights, or do you want a night-light on?"
"A nightlight, please." Eeteuk nodded and reached to turn on the small snoopy night-light beside Kyuhyun's bed.
"Night, Kyuhyun-ah." Eeteuk placed a small kiss on the young boy's forehead before heading to the door.
"Hyung?" The small voice stopped Eeteuk at the entrance and Eeteuk turned around. "Are you sure? You know...about the heart thing?"
Eeteuk smiled and nodded. "Of course, Kyuhyun-ah. Good-night."
He sees, as he shuts the door, that three weeks later he will find the youngest in his care once again, this time crying soft tears and whimpering into his shirt as he pats the boy on the back, soothingly whispering nothings into his ear.
"If I can't have the heart I want, what's the use of having any at all?" the sobbed words will break Eeteuk's heart and he will wonder why the future that he sees, he can't change.
