Cutesy robots do zero for me as well, but I have always found D84 to be one of the most endearing supporting characters in the series' history.

The Robots of Death is just a damn good mystery story in the English tradition, but a debt it definitely has is to Bester's Fondly Fahrenheit....

The sandminer crew are one of the few ensembles in Who who actually give the impression of being a group of professionals working together towards a common economic goal - I was reminded a lot of them by Impossible Planet/Satan Pit's crew of fallible, well-rounded, motivated professionals.
