Diehard fan though I am, my family was living in the Netherlands in 1979-80 and so I have never seen any of Season Seventeen ("Destiny of the Daleks", "City of Death", "The Creature from the Pit", "Nightmare of Eden", "The Horns of Nimon" and what there is of "Shada"). I should really watch that again - I think it's probably the earliest Doctor Who episode I actually remember seeing first time round (my memories are slightly confused because we lived in the US from 1981-83, where the local PBS station only seemed to have the rights to the Tom Baker episodes, and seemed to play one episode a night on a continuous loop).

This was part of one of the strongest seasons, with Baker in excellent form. City of Death has some lovely moments, despite the rather naff special effects, and remains one of my favourite stories. The dimensionally transcendental head is also one of my favourites.

Is that the one that has the great line (I mangle horribly here) like 'Thus pass the Jaggaroth, a nasty, vicious, cruel species, the universe wll not miss them?) Or words to that efect?

Yes, there's certainly a very similar line. Hang on:

"The last of the Jagaroth - a vicious, callous, warlike race. The universe won't miss them" At about 18:30 into episode 4.
