24) Preacher [#1]: Gone to Texas, by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon

First volume of the acclaimed series. I quite enjoyed the characters - angelic skullduggery worthy of Gaiman; a vampire with an Ulster accent; but found the graphic violence off-putting.

The violence doesn't get any better. Preacher, however, is one of my all time favorite comic series.

Preacher is definitely Garth Ennis's masterwork. The violence, if anything, escalates throughout the series, but he really does good things here. Worth reading all of.

Echoing the other two, the violence gets more pronounced, Cassidy becomes more insane, but the whole thing is sheer genius, and I really must get around to digging it out to read again.

I wouldn't say Cassidy gets more insane, more that we find out more about what he's really like, and how being young forever isn't an enviable proposition.

as brilliant a series as it indeed is, i found the 2nd volume to be the most violent and offputting. It's the only volume I don't own, I think.
