A few weeks back (maybe even a few months back) someone asked me, or else I saw a question posed to the internet at large, about the World SF Writers Conference held by Harry Harrison in Ireland in 1978 and whether there was any information about it on-line ( Read more... )

Oh bugger. I didn't know that John had died - I enjoyed his work on sf films a lot (although I thought he was a fairly mediocre novelist). Future Tense and The Primal Screen turned me on to a lot of strange movies over the years.

Cool, and now to pass it on to the head of reader's services who deserves to know that there is an active sf community and has been for many years in this country. 8)

Right, got a bit more for you: here and are brief references to the first one in 1976, and here a bit more about the 1978 event and a brief account of it from Brian Aldiss here - this must have been the Pohl/Bester one you were thinking of. (See also Harry Harrison v John Brunner in an early Ansible.)
