As some of you know, I like to give out free career advice from time to time. (Often unsolicited; I hope not too often unwelcome.) I'm also in the position where I get a fair few people just emailing me their CV's and asking if I had a suitable opening; to which the answer is usually no (literally once, in my almost four years here, has the right ( Read more... )

Wow! good for you! (And also glad to hear that they are still hiring despite it being mothballed.)

So would this mean educating the public about the Assembly, or educating the Assembly's members about, well, anything?

Hey, I just got an email about intern spots at Crisis. But my situation is, in a way, related to that of the aforementioned Scandinavian woman. I have incredible interest in the areas offered and can easily see myself pursuing a career in diplomacy/international relations, but, as of yet (freshman year in college), I have 0 relevant experience. What would you recommend, in addition to election observation (also, could you please expound a little bit on that, if it's not too much trouble)?

For US citizens (which I assume you are) the election monitoring site is here.

My own internship requirements are rather high, but I suspect our DC and New York offices may be a bit less picky. Having said that, I doubt if they take many freshmen. Your plan of doing some independent travel this summer is probably the best idea right now.

(literally once, in my almost four years here, has the right CV hit my desk just at the moment when I really needed to hire someone with those qualifications)

I think I owe my current job to just such a coincidence happening in the Manchester office of my employers, even though I ended up in Birmingham.

No, I shall keep on giving advice to people who ask for it. This one person's behaviour is truly bizarre though.
