Thanks for the pointer. My collection of cartoons includes none of the main Irish newspaper cartoonists. Given I'm still dithering about becoming an Irish citizen; but I know I don't want to be associated with the nation that shaped me as it is now, I need to do a bit more cultural acclimatisation. I guess I also need to find out if I can obtain Portuguese or Indian nationality. Folk from my family were in and out of India as Box-Wallahs since at least the C18th - there is a family tradition that we first went to India in the 1690s, but that's not provable - but we were certainly among the first English traders, and lots of us were born in India; including my old man.
I always felt I was a trifle too exotic for most of Ireland. I am a trader's melange of ancestral inheritance, and obviously so. (Always being mistaken for an Italian, for example.) And RP in Dublin is just about OK; but if I wasn't related to folk, Crossmaglen and Tier could have been a bit... er(Mind you, my face rather gives me away. If you come from Cross or Tier you will see folk obviously related to me on every corner - the family have a saying along the lines of John Lennon didn't look like a Lennon, he looked like a McCabe. And the Lennons were always looked down on by McCabes, the Shorts, and The Quins. Excepting my grandma, who was born a McCabe, married into the feckless Lennons and gave the McCabe face to both mum and myself.)
