April 2008 was the month that we applied for Belgian citizenship. A rare month (before this year) when I don't seem to have left the country at all, having arrived home from Ireland late on 31 March and departed for France early on 1 May. Elric is a great character for 1961 or thereabouts, but Jerry...

These were published in paperback before they came out in hardback and informed my pre-punk early teenage years. I knew the "Vietgrove" graffiti and had been in the roofgarden on top of what had been Derry & Toms.

As much as Hendrix or Page, Jerry Cornelius was inspiration for me to pick up the guitar. And my musical career has been somewhat shambolic; no doubt in honour of Jerry's.

I even think I once stepped out with a Mitzi Beesley-a-like. (You are only ever young and immortal once.)

In the '70's they were such cool books. Punk changed things, obvs. But I can remember collecting the cartoon strip that had been written by various authors. IIRC it was in the International Times, but my memory may be failing.

I like Carpenter's Biog of Tolkein too; but not in the same way.
