Patton won the Oscar for Best Picture of 1970, and picked up another six - Best Actor was famously declined by George C. Scott as the title character, but its makers took home awards for Best Director (Franklin J. If you can, see M*A*S*H. I've not seen it since it came out, but it's a wonderful movie. And, unlike the TV series, it's shorter than the Korean war.

I remember MAD Magazine's utterly unfair comment: "M*A*S*H has now lasted twice as long as the real Korean war. But it is only half as boring."

If you do watch M*A*S*H I will be fascinated to hear what you think. It's so very much of it's time (in a way the book and the TV show also are, but in different ways). I really enjoyed it and so did Mum. She saw it in German with my Dad once and was told that "a nice well-brought up lady wouldn't laugh at that joke."

Airport is very much of the epic disaster movie era and remarkably good at doing what it does, despite it's reputation.

I remember Patton consisting largely of tedious bureaucratic meetings in which generals sit around and discuss their battle plans. Is that inaccurate?
