We did a medley of Oliver! songs for Year 6 assembly so I still know the words to most of them. I have a particular fondness for Fagin's songs because they're some of the few that are in a key I can sing in.

I think the attraction of Sykes is supposed to be mostly animal and that he can be charming when he wants to be. That being said the BBC production with Tom Hardy as Sykes probably has the best Sykes I've ever seen. It also does something tragic with the Artful Dodger that I thought was very well done. It also has an Oliver who gets mucky and has a regional actor. My Mum objects to Oliver in this one as being too clear and well-spoken.

How had I never spotted Leonard Rossiter?
