Congratulations! Also, good to have a Hugo Awards Administrator with previous professional experience of preferential run-off voting!

Congratulations!
What does a Hugo Administrator do, and how does one become one? Of course I know what the Hugos are, but I'm curious about how the process from behind the scenes works out...

The job is, very simply, to implement the provisions of the World Science Fiction Society constitution with respect to the Hugo Awards; ie managing the opening, closing, counting and announcement of the nominations and votes. The position is in the gift of each year's Worldcon committee; you'd have to ask them why they asked me...

If you need a counter, or an assistant or anything else, then feel free to get in touch. I already have an attending membership for WorldCon 75 and can easily enough plan to be in Helsinki a day or two early.

Also, any technical help required (either computer-technical or voting systems-technical), I'll be happy to assist.

There will be no counting on-site -- voting closes weeks before the convention, so that the votes can all be counted (and the awards engraved with the names of the winners) before the convention begins.

Cheers, though as Mike says, the actual counting is done off-site. (Not so for the BSFA Award, as far as I know; it is counted at Eastercon.)

Congratulations! Your combination of experience and skills makes you a brilliant choice, and Worldcon 75 - and the Hugos - are fortunate to have you. Good luck with it; whatever the challenges, I think it will be both fascinating and exciting. Enjoy it!
