The cost of me becoming British (which, because I'm Canadian and can therefore vote, I've never got round to doing) is still orders of magnitude cheaper than if we were to go the over way round and take my partner back to Canada.
The difference is, when you take the test and do the language proficiency and fork over all the money, you will be accepted as now being Canadian, rather than forever a foreigner.
That Jessica Jones article - you know when you want to agree with someone but they keep making statements that cause you to go 'um, I didn't quite see it like that'. It's a pretty major case of that.
