Personal experience talking rather than cold hard facts, but I've often found that when talking to Brits about Euro politics they tend to try to map it onto a UK frame which doesn't always work and often distorts the argument. I know everyone does that to some extent, but the warping and spindling is pretty significant because of the ways the UK is an outlier.

The sheer mendacity of the Telegraph article on Portugal is depressing enough (though of course entirely typical of their line on Europe generally); what is even worse is the number of people who read only the headline and didn't even spot that it was contradicted by some of the reporting, let alone twig that the reporting was not trustworthy anyway because of where it was published!
