See note on methodologyFrance presented me with some very interesting issues. The top book, by number of owners, tagged "France" on both Librarything and GoodReads does indeed have a substantial chunk in the middle set in France, but starts in England and finishes in Scotland. Yeah, I was rooting for the Musketeers, too!

Are the books different from eg top ranked "Paris" and top marked "France"?

The book most frequently tagged "Paris" on both systems is A Movable Feat by Hemingway. However, most books that have been tagged Paris" are also tagged "France". You do lose the false positives like L'Étranger, but you also lose books set elsewhere in France!

Suite Francaise is really worth seeking out and reading. An emotional read.

I'm surprised not to see Bonjour Tristesse in there, but the six "proper" entries here would all have occurred to me, plus Germinal/Nana and The Scarlet and the Black.

I am really enjoying this series.

Astonished that The Three Musketeers didn't make it, especially as The Count of Monte Cristo does!

Several volumes of the Lymond Chronicles are set in France, as well as Scotland and England.
