Yeah, Gary Russell seems to get a lot of flak; 'Legacy' seems to be particularly hated but I remember really enjoying it. Mind you, that was 20 years ago so I might feel different about it now!

Maybe people reacted badly to something that reminded them of Doctor Who: High School AU?

Again, post-Buffy perhaps that aspect of it reads differently!
