Not so much Newsweek as Cliff Stoll; I have a feeling that article was written about the same time as, or shortly after, his second book (Silicon Snake Oil) was published. He came across as a reactionary and grumpy old man at the time, even against the worst hyperbole of the dotcom boom.

To be fair, when the (now very famous) Newsweek article was featured on Boing Boing, Stoll turned up in the comment thread to say 'yup, called that one wrong...' But you know, one of the things that both fascinates and alarms me about the world we live in is the way that people tend to grow pessimistic as they grow older.
