The memorable one I heard of wasn't a customer code but an abbreviation used by telegraphers employed by newspapers transmitting copy from reporters in the field. An American politician of the time was fond of using the phrase "the brotherhood of Man under the fatherhood of God" and when reporting his speeches the telegraphers shortened this to "BOMFOG".
